Town of Carleton Place – SCADA / PLC Upgrade

Summa’s expertise in upgrading SCADA systems, situational awareness graphics and our understanding of municipal wastewater systems in addition to our expertise in design, networks, programming, installation, documentation, and commissioning operating facilities allowed for the successful completion of this project.

Background

The goal of this project was to replace obsolete or end of service life PLCs, SCADA hardware and UPS, and HMI software. The existing network requires an upgrade to ring topology. Control panels require workstation upgrades to allow HMI access. For data, programs, and applications back up, a NAS needs to be added to the system. The implementation has to minimize interruptions to the plant operation and data collection.

The goal was to deliver on schedule and on budget to meet and exceed the expectations of this major upgrade project.

Summa, as the general contractor, was responsible for the upgrade of the plant SCADA system to the latest Wonderware InTouch, Historian and new report generator. Scope of supply included computers, platform and applications (monitor, managed switch, UPS, printer, NAS).
