Summa’s past experience in construction and implementation of Wastewater Treatment Plant SCADA Systems and programming to client standards, in addition to our expertise in programming, instrumentation, documentation, and commissioning allowed for the successful completion of this project.

Background

The Kitchener WWTP upgrade included 3 phases.

Contract 2 Digestion and Energy Centre. This contract included a new digestion complex, and energy centre. The disgester complex included flexible membrane gasholder, linear motion mixers, gas boosters, waste gas burner, sludge feed and recirculation, and related instrumentation. SCADA requirements included PLC panels, network cabinets, PLC and SCADA programming. The energy centre included standby generators, switchgear, HVAC, and related instrumentation. SCADA requirements included PLC panels, network cabinets, PLC and SCADA programming.

Contract 3 Headworks & Secondary Treatment
This contract included a new headworks building, Parshall flumes, screens, grit removal system, phosphorus chemical removal system, channel aeration, odour control system, new aeration tanks, secondary clarifiers, RAS/WAS, aeration blowers, scum pumps, and related instrumentation. SCADA requirements included PLC panels, network cabinets, PLC and SCADA programming.

Contract 4 Tertiary Treatment

This contract included tertiary disk filters and related instrumentation. SCADA requirements included PLC panels, network cabinets, PLC and SCADA programming.
Summa was the pre-selected System Integrator was for all three phases.

Scope of Work

The goal was to deliver the project on schedule and on budget to meet and exceed the expectations of the project.

Summa was responsible for all PLC and SCADA programming and package system co-ordination and integration into the existing plant SCADA. All programming complied with the Region of Waterloo’s programming standards.

Summa worked with three different GC’s and two consultants along with OCWA operations and the Region of Waterloo in coordinating the scope of work and schedules for the three contracts.

Instrumentation, PLC panels, and network cabinets were supplied and commissioned for contract’s 3 and 4.
