City of Toronto – Humber WWTP Sodium Hypochlorite System

Humber Wastewater Treatment Plant Sodium Hypochlorite System

Summa’s extensive experience in construction and upgrades of process automations systems in major wastewater facilities, in addition to good management in the areas of programming, panel manufacturing, and commissioning allowed for the successful completion of the project.

Background

The Humber WWTP is the City’s second largest wastewater treatment plant and is located in Toronto’s west end.  A new sodium hypochlorite disinfection facility was required to replace the existing gas chlorination disinfection facility at the plant.  The new system provides chlorine dosage required for secondary effluent and bypass flow disinfection, RAS bulking control and plant water disinfection. The chlorine is provided in the form of sodium hypochlorite at 12% w/w trade concentration.
